The perfect compliment to Thanksgiving dinner
8 McIntosh apples (3 pounds), peeled, quartered and cored
4 Bartlett pears, peeled, quartered and cored
2 cups water
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
In a large saucepan, bring the apples, pears, water and lemon juice to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the fruit breaks down to a thick, chunky puree, about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar and cinnamon. Serve warm.
